It classifies food waste collected from all over Daegu city to bury other impurity wastes to landfill while food waste is treated through self-treatment process.

Establishment of food waste treatment base

For the food waste recycling plan, 210 tons of food waste a day collected from 330,000 households since July 2001, have been recycled as compost and animal feed by nearby 10 private treatment facilities, we established the base for food waste separate collection by supporting 3.5 billion Won which covers 68 food waste dedicated cars, 23,700 containers.

The result of project for waste reducement and separate collection in Daegu

Daegu has continuously promoted the project for waste reducement and separate collection so far in order to solve the problem of odor and leachate generated. As a result, this project significantly contributed the prevention of environmental pollution and the suppression of odor as the food waste has decreased by 41% from 945 ton a day in 1994 to 550 ton a day in January 2003 while waste recycle volume has increased by 25 times from 16ton a day in 1996 to 400 ton in 2002.
